Simple ways to save water

140 litres of water is what the average person in the UK uses every day. It’s a huge amount and much of it is wasted unnecessarily. To be sustainable we need to get to 100 litres a day. And if we all use water just a bit more carefully we’ll get there.

How to save water at home

Bathing

Take a shower instead of a bath. You’ll use about half as much water – maybe less.

Flushing

Try to flush the toilet less. A single flush can use up to 13 litres.

Washing

Use shorter cycles. Long, hot laundry cycles use up to 170 litres of water.

Dishwashing

Rinsing your dishes in the sink can waste up to 1000L of water a year.

Outside

Water from a garden sprinkler flows at over 1000 litres an hour.
